Lampedusa, colors and nature

Although it was considered by the English, who were the first to "map" it, among the top seven islands in the world for the beauty of the sea and beaches, Lampedusa offers not only the sea but also wonderful floral and faunal displays.

The island, now an "irreversible garigue," changes its appearance and color and scent with the passing of the seasons: scilla covers it in October, turning it white and blue, the blooming of acacias and gorse turns it yellow in March/April, and immediately after, cushions of wild thyme and thistle flowers turn it purple and lilac.

Lampedusa, wild harmony
The cycle of nature between sea, sky, and land

This chromatic alternation has always marked the passage of the whales, which every year in April graze Lampedusa with their young, carried by the currents rich in shrimp; it also accompanies, for a shorter time, the hunt of the queen falcon, now resident, which exchanges its prey with its mate in dives at over 120 km/h; it witnesses the ancient ritual of return, even from the oceans, of the turtles to lay their eggs in the same place where they were born.
