Sustainability requires clear rules, continuous monitoring, and shared responsibility. This is why Hotel i Dammusi has developed a structured system of environmental policies that guide every aspect of our operations.
These are not generic statements of intent, but strategic, measurable decisions, based on objective criteria and expected outcomes. We have adopted specific policies for water management, waste reduction, energy use, and emissions control, all aimed at minimizing our environmental impact and protecting the island’s fragile ecosystem.
We work exclusively with selected suppliers, use low-impact materials and products, and invest in ongoing staff training to ensure consistent and responsible implementation of our guidelines.

Documented actions and measurable results
Hotel i Dammusi in Borgo Cala Creta has implemented a series of tangible interventions aligned with environmental sustainability principles and certified through international standards.
• Since 2019, the property has been equipped with a 70 kW photovoltaic system, allowing us to avoid an average of 97,632 kg of CO₂ equivalent emissions per year.
• Each dammuso is equipped with water flow reducers and dual-flush toilets to minimize water usage.
• The drip irrigation system is designed to optimize water consumption.
• Our courtesy kits are low-impact: we use only solid soaps and shampoos with biodegradable packaging.
• In our restaurant, we prioritize seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, reducing our logistical footprint and supporting the local economy.
• In all shared areas, we promote proper waste separation with clearly marked recycling stations, including a designated collection point at the reception.
The hotel is also a proud member of the SME Climate Hub, a global initiative supported by the United Nations. By joining the Climate Commitment for SMEs, we have pledged to halve our emissions by 2030 as part of the Race to Zero campaign led by the UN High-Level Climate Action Champions.
In terms of environmental performance, we have achieved our first ESG Score following an in-depth analysis of our environmental and operational impact.
Thanks to our participation in two European Union–funded projects — I-STARS and COASTOUR — we have:
• Introduced a system for annual monitoring of energy, water, waste and CO₂ emissions;
• Defined our official environmental and social policies;
• Developed a formal climate transition plan for the business.
These efforts contributed to our verification under the Hotel Sustainability Basics framework, and reinforce our long-term commitment to a transparent, responsible, and replicable model of environmental management.
