SUSTAINABLE HOSPITALITY
HOTEL I DAMMUSI LAMPEDUSA
Borgo Cala Creta

Sustainable hospitality at the core of our identity

At Hotel i Dammusi in Borgo Cala Creta, sustainability is not a detail — it is a deliberate choice that guides every aspect of how we host and welcome our guests.

All of our processes are grounded in the integration of guest well-being, environmental responsibility, and a deep commitment to the local territory. Our aim is to offer an authentic, restorative, and responsible experience — in harmony with the unique nature of Lampedusa.

In this spirit, we are proud to be the first hotel in Italy to be verified according to the Hotel Sustainability Basics standard, promoted by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and audited by SGS, a world leader in certification, inspection, and verification services.

The verification is based on 12 core criteria, including carbon emission reduction, conservation of natural resources, and generating benefits for local communities. This milestone confirms our concrete commitment to a more ethical, measurable, and sustainable model of hospitality — aligned with international standards in the travel and tourism sector.

Environmental policies and sustainable daily practices

To turn commitment into concrete action, Hotel i Dammusi has implemented a set of operational practices focused on sustainability. We invest in eco-compatible solutions and follow specific policies for the responsible management of energy, water, and waste.

We use local, long-lasting materials for construction, have eliminated single-use plastics, and rely on certified biodegradable products for cleaning and maintenance. Biodiversity is also protected through the intentional decision to leave part of our garden uncultivated, in accordance with permaculture principles.

We invite each guest to actively participate in our model of shared sustainability through simple, everyday gestures. In this way, a stay at Hotel i Dammusi becomes a conscious experience that combines quality service with respect for the surrounding environment.

Sustainable actions: measurable results

Our commitment to a more responsible model of hospitality takes shape through daily, measurable actions aligned with the core principles of sustainability.
Among the initiatives already implemented:

Installation of a 70 kW photovoltaic system, active since 2019, which allows us to avoid approximately 97,632 kg of CO₂ equivalent emissions each year.
Use of water-saving flow reducers in all dammusi and a drip irrigation system to optimize water consumption.
Adoption of solid and biodegradable courtesy kits, reducing plastic use and non-recyclable waste.
Sustainable food choices, with locally sourced ingredients and seasonal fruits and vegetables.
Separate waste collection bins placed in common areas, accompanied by clear informational signage for guests.

The hotel is a proud member of the SME Climate Hub, a global initiative promoted by the United Nations to support small and medium-sized enterprises in halving their emissions by 2030, as part of the international Race to Zero campaign.

These actions are part of an ongoing journey, tracked through international standards and verified by independent third parties.
